Head Of Epigenetic Med Chem Lab
CurrentThe Epigenetic Med Chem Lab (EMCL) is a multi-disciplinary research team whose mission is the study of protein targets responsible (directly or indirectly) of epigenetic modifications (KATs, KMTs, DNMTs, PRMTs, KDMs, bromodomain, MBT, Tudor) or of proteins regulated by epigenetic processes (e.g. LINE-1 RT).We lead multiple drug discovery projects aimed to developing chemical probes (inhibitors and/or activators) for different epi-enzymes as well as modulators of protein-protein interactions, taking advantage of a multiple approach combining synthetic organic chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry and biophysics (surface plasmon resonance, differential scanning fluorimetry, isothermal titration calorimetry, microscale thermophoresis, microfluidic mobility shift assays).

Director Of The Phd Program In Drug Discovery & Development
The recently established PhD Program in Drug Discovery & Development (Dottorato in Scienze del Farmaco, DSF) of the University of Salerno is an initiative of the Department of Pharmacy and seeks to prepare young scientists and early stage researchers for exciting and challenging careers in academia and in the public and private sector. It is a structured doctoral program in the rather broad area of drug sciences and provides an innovative training program that bridges the divide between traditionally separate disciplines.Key elements of the program are an interdisciplinary research project jointly supervised by two PIs and an educational curriculum centered around an intensive core course that integrates a wide range of approaches to chemical and biological problems, spanning target identification/validation, assay development, high throughput screening, cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, medicinal chemistry, analytical chemistry, predictive in vitro ADMET assays, pharmacokinetics/drug distribution, and in vivo models of human disease. A multifaceted mentoring and professional skills program supports the students’ growth as independent scientists. For more information, visit web.unisa.it/en/teaching/phd-programmes

The goal of the Innovative Medicines Initiative 2 (IMI 2) programme is to develop next generation vaccines, medicines and treatments, such as new antibiotics. It will build on the successes and lessons learnt under IMI's first phase. As before, it will bring together companies, universities, public laboratories, innovative small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), patient groups and regulators in collaborative projects that will pave the way for breakthrough vaccines, medicines and treatments to tackle Europe’s growing health challenges, and secure the future international competitiveness of Europe’s pharmaceutical industry. The IMI 2 programme will provide Europeans, including the increasing numbers of older people, with more efficient and effective medicines and treatments. Cost savings will ease the burden on public healthcare systems and greater coordination across industry sectors will result in more reliable and faster clinical trials, and better regulation. IMI 2 research and innovation efforts will also open new commercial possibilities based on new services and products. The research, industry and societal sectors involved in IMI 2 programmes will benefit from the cooperation and knowledge sharing which take place in these projects.

The mission of the ESMEC is to provide participants, PhD students and junior researchers from both academia and industry, with the most recent advances in the field of medicinal and organic chemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology and analytical/ structural chemistry. This idea is aimed to reflect the current scenario of medicinal chemistry being a truly transdisciplinary approach, where the advances in knowledge are driven by the medicinal chemist’s ability to translate into new molecular concepts and into novel molecular entities the amount of information created by molecular medicine, pharmacology, molecular biology, systems biology. For these reasons, the School is directed to participants at a graduated and post-graduated level, in chemistry but also in pharmacology or biology, who are keen to explore the interdisciplinary context of current cutting-edge research in medicinal chemistry. To achieve these very ambitious goals, the School is organized into thematic sessions, each of them constructed around a series of lectures, followed by practical workshops.
