In 2002 I identified an opportunity to leverage freely accessible information to bring publishers' overstock books affordably to the retail market. I created a vendor network and with some creativity and the help from some very talented people Falls River Books was born. At Falls River Books our biggest problem was controlling the pace of growth. As an owner and founder I did all the things you would expect including working all hours of the day, never taking a day off and eventually burning out just in time to do the hand-off.After several years with Falls River Books my partner and I successfully sold the business. It was bitter sweet to let go of the company I started in the basement of my home but as they say, "everything has a price" and the time was right.

My time at North Raleigh Community Church was an intense time of mentoring and growth. In many ways it served as an advanced internship. I was very fortunate to be able to work for an especially talented individual who taught me first hand the power of believing in people. I took time during these two years to study the works of Abraham Maslow and particularly the book "Maslow On Management" which I believe is one of the best business books ever written.

I had opportunity to enjoy a wide range of responsibilities from construction project management to youth minister and just about everything in between. It was a great opportunity close to home for a young pastor.
