The Natural Fibre Company is a producer of yarn from a range of fibres. When I came into the business it had made huge losses and the mission was to stop the rot, commence turnaround and then to transform the business into a high performer. Pleasingly we were able to turn a loss making business with a poor culture into a profitable and stable enterprise with fantastic opportunity for the future. In particular NFC is becoming a real expert in alternative fibres such as bamboo, hemp, nettle and tencel.

Blacker Yarns is the e-commerce arm of NFC. It retails yarns made from rare breed sheep and has done so successfully for a number of years. Our first major challenge when taking over was to update the website and the decision was made to re-platform to Woo Commerce. The site has received widespread appreciation. Our second challenge was to address the historic issue of stock control and proper costing of the stock, allowing an analysis of margins. This has also been successfully implemented by linking Xero and WooCommerce.

Founder of Griffin Chartered Accountants. I took the business from nothing more than a start up in a dining room to a serious player in the market with a turnover approaching £1m and fifteen members of staff.

Responsible for advising clients regarding business sales and acquisitions as well as conducting subsequent due diligence assignments. Key work included:- Ongoing support and advice to clients throughout the acquisition/disposal process, preparing reports and determining appropriate deal multiples.- Cash flow forecasting for the purposes of raising finance, often related to future MBO’s or major investment programs.- Reviewing and providing feedback on business plans as well as preparing plans based on client specifications.- Undertaking due diligence assignments of potential target companies and preparing the necessary reports.- Valuation services for a range of clients, from start-up businesses to internationals.

Management of quality assurance processes within the Dalston beverage factory. My objective was to improve the processes in place to prevent failings from happening, but when they did, it was my responsibility to first rectify the problem , i.e.recalling product etc. and then to investigate the root cause. I was one of only 3 people selected nationally to join the scheme.
