Research and development in the area of mathematical modeling and computational optimization

● Developed a novel Essentially Nonlinear Energy Sink and studied its properties related to the protection of structures from impulsive loads such as earthquakes (within a DARPA project)● Developed and studied Targeted Energy Transfer systems for potential applications in Energy Harvesting● Performed Molecular Dynamics simulations of DNA diffusion through a silicon nanopore under the action of the electrostatic field (within an NIH project)● Used massively parallel simulations (on a supercomputer with up to 1024 CPUs) to demonstrate the feasibility of a fast and cheap Electrostatic DNA Sequencing ● Participated in writing of successful research proposals granted and funded by NIH and DARPA

● Developed a new method for the calculation of the electrostatic free energy of the solvation of DNA and proteins in solutions● Increased the speed of calculation by a factor of 100 compared to existing methods by using a nontrivial asymptotic approximation to replace a slowly converging series● Participated in writing of successful research proposals granted and funded by NSF
