I’m a COO/CFO type but I do not really fit into a neat category. What I am is…focused on delivering for an organization confronting change through scaling up, new business strategies or changes in market conditions.I’m a seasoned executive combining financial expertise and operational execution. I’m not your traditional accountant, I look at operations first and see what data can be pulled and how to use it.It took me a while to work out what I like, along the way Law School, then back to school for a Commerce degree. Practiced law, accounting and finance in private practice. I realized I like working with people and in businesses so it seemed natural to start working in companies instead of as an adviser. I most enjoy working in change situations where having the varied skill set helps me contribute in a number of different areas including management, finance, accounting and law. Good at anytime but incredibly useful in change situations. I have experience in different sectors and with different types of people. While everyone’s business is unique, many of the issues and problems businesses face are the same regardless of sector. I enjoy building business - taking the ideas and challenging the business model, building the business plan, testing it and adapting it as the business moves forward.A few short “sound bites” that I think are important1) Businesses are built on people –employees, customers and vendors - businesses ignore the people element at their own peril. 2) I love information. In the current age it is available everywhere and one of my greatest frustrations is when it is ignored. 3)

One of the premier high end office fit out companies in the country, the Company’s demountable walls division was growing rapidly but in an unstructured way. I was bought in to develop its business to the next level. In a very short time the group’s operations have improved and continue to improve each day. Changes included changing operating practices and better use of software to improve efficiencies and changing supply lines to improve costs and deliverable times (with an emphasis on local production and sourcing).

When I joined as Chief Financial Officer, Lamart’s information systems and procedures had not been updated for over 30 Years. The Company had selected a new MIS which it had been implementing for over 2 years. I finished implementing the system and in the process built in house expertise enabling the group to be an operational service center for the rest of the Company. I, transformed the Accounting group to an Information Services Group focused on current data and its information value with expertise in all Company operations, providing essential services to all departments. Internally the division focus’ was a revenue center always focusing on increasing Company revenue by using the data to decrease operational errors and maximizing efficiency to increase profit. Growing the employees by building their technical expertise was the key to success.

Cacao Prieto was a startup distillery and chocolate factory that had been operating and had developed product but was unable to sell it because it had not satisfied regulatory processes. I came in for a short period and began and completed the regulatory requirements, introduced financial systems and controls. I also represented the Company in closing its first private financing transaction.

Rock & Republic Inc was a leading denim product manufacturer producing and selling product both in the USA and overseas. The Company entered Chapter 11 and I was retained in a COO/CFO role with day to day responsibilities including • Reorganizing companies operations to improve production efficiency and decision making overseeing all areas other than Sales• Passive training of middle management to improve effectiveness and speed of decision making• Negotiations with banks, financiers and trade creditors to improve financing and cash flow

Propper was a proud medical manufacturing company, with a strong and successful history. Some bad luck had bought the Company down and it was atrophying. When I came in as COO/CFO one of the first things I did was revitalize the R&D division. There was sufficient talent in the Company to move quickly and with some innovative hiring practices the R&D group developed successfully. After that was a retraining of the Sales department (using an excellent third-party consultant) to sell to solve problems. Next was rebuilding the IT infrastructure and improving customer support and eventually the Company became cash flow positive.

Ilion was a foreign company that had set up operations in USA to complete a NASDAQ listing as it was developing its lithium battery facility in the USA. I worked with the President of the USA office to set up, develop and run the USA subsidiary and work on the listing and at the same time managing all reporting and compliance requirements both in the USA and in the foreign home office. When the listing was cancelled at the last minute (because of the market crash) we developed an alternative strategy to ensure the Company survived. Interaction and integration of the USA and NZ entities, both operationally and financially was key.
