My research focuses on accelerated and equitable innovation using emerging computational technologies such as artificial intelligence, programmable biotechnologies such as CRISPR/Cas systems and frameworks for scientific discovery at a global scale such as open innovation challenges. My approach to solving complex biological problems has led to award winning solutions in global competitions collectively involving about 600 participants including a novel approach for the intrinsic biocontainment of highly pathogenic viruses, a computational and DNA sequencing pipeline for predicting human age/ aging from body fluids or tissues and a machine learning model for predicting the expression levels of synthetic genes using their promoter sequences. Previously, I was a lead researcher at IBM Research Africa, a co-founder of Helix Nanotechnologies- a DNA nanotechnology company and Fit2Cure- a computer game that abstracts a fundamental part of drug discovery (molecular docking) into a shape fitting game.
