The start of my career in educational technology. I worked in the Open and Distance Learning Unit, who provided the opportunity for those in full time work to undertake an undergraduate degree in computer science online. I was largely involved in making content available via the TopClass online learning environment, in the relatively early days of online learning environments. This involved taking content from academics and ensuring it was made ready for use in TopClass.

Changes to the system had to be developed and implemented incredibly quickly and I learned to work as part of a large team working with business analysts, project managers, front end developers and testers to incredibly tight deadlines. I was able to hone my programming skills and develop accurate code very quickly. I also developed a good working knowledge of train timetabling systems and how to get cheap train tickets!Other projects I worked on during my time at Cap Gemini were for General Motors and the Department for Education and Skills and involved less software development and more user interface design work, developing wireframes in conjunction with business analysts and users.
