After our prior CTO departed in July 2021, I was appointed Acting Head of Engineering, reporting directly to the CEO. I led the Engineering (inclusive of front-end, back-end, data, and DevOps) and IT groups throughout this period, and also led our Product Management and Product Design teams until the hiring of a VP of Product in December 2021. During my time leading these teams, we delivered a number of transformative initiatives, including:• Launching a prescription dermatology program, representing our first major product line outside the reproductive health space• A complete rebrand and relaunch of our web presence• Rebuilding our frontend information architecture and backend workflow systems to support multiple product lines in a scalable way• The company’s first native mobile apps (developed in partnership with a third-party vendor).• Identity verification and other compliance initiativesI also: • Grew the team by 25%, partnering closely with our recruiting team to design and administer interview panels. I also interviewed over 100 candidates, including engineers, product managers, and VPs of product, design, and operations.• Executed organizational changes to better align the team structure with business needs• Instituted an incident management process leveraging Jira and Confluence• Represented the technology organization at the executive level, including presentations to the board of directors• Managed SaaS vendor relationships and contracts, including Stripe, Twilio, and AWS

Previously, I served as a Director of Engineering leading the Medical engineering team. We built tools, services, and systems to support our medical group and facilitate patients’ interactions with our medical services. During my time leading this team, I:• Grew the team from two to six engineers• Designed and delivered a system for building flexible, auditable medical questionnaires withlimited need for front-end resources• Built a video-visit platform leveraging Twilio SDKs, with a custom user experience for bothpatients and providers. This system included video, voice, and text chat, along with queue management and analytics

In my second stint at Twitter, I managed the User and Social Graph service team (code name: Gizmoduck) within the Core Services organization, managing a geographically-distributed team responsible for several of Twitter’s highest-throughput systems:• the User service which provides read/write access to Twitter user data and associated business logic at scale• the Social Graph service which manages Twitter’s user-to-user graph relationships (follow, block, mute, etc.).Major focus areas included user privacy and data protection, especially as they interact with regulations like GDPR.I also managed a cross-team project to build infrastructure in support of Twitter’s GraphQL implementation, allowing the migration of its backend off a legacy serving stack.

I helped build LendingHome's investing and servicing systems, first as an engineer, and then as a manager, owning the full post-origination lifecycle for LendingHome's mortgage portfolio.

At Buoyant, I worked on linkerd (https://linkerd.io), our open-source Scala/JVM RPC proxy for microservices, as well as on our enterprise product Helium, a Go+React web service that provides higher-level monitoring, tracing, and control.

Most recently, I managed the API Services and Traffic Control teams at Twitter, working on authentication, rate limiting, RPC routing, and service discovery. During my tenure as a manager, I primarily led teams focused on development of Twitter's REST APIs and the services and frameworks that power them, along with decomposing our monolithic Ruby on Rails stack into a service-oriented architecture on the JVM.

Designed the SEEDS™ protocol for monitoring of distributed PV assets; implemented SEEDS™ enterprise management interface in Ruby on Rails and backend messaging server in Erlang. Integrated with other SunEdison systems using AMQP messaging.

Worked on Homestead's WYSIWYG website building tools and on various aspects of the Homestead website.
