Climate Action Director (Environment Director Until 2020)
CurrentAs Environment Lead at Business in the Community, I challenge and support leaders to design and deliver a rapid, just transition to a net zero, resilient future where people and nature thrive. My role is to build relationships across business, government and communities, co-create pathways for the transition and support businesses to move from commitment to action. This involves:- Designing and implementing BITC’s strategy with diverse stakeholders, finding a unique space in a crowded market to catalyse business action for a just transition.- Creating thought leadership, stories, frameworks (including the Waste to Wealth Commitment and 7 Steps for Climate Action) and toolkits, commissioning thematic research and working with YouGov to run large surveys to build the evidence base. - Developing a social innovation programme to build route maps for business action on two of the 7 steps: helping companies to nurture the skills to thrive in the transition and design and deliver climate action with diverse stakeholders. - Generating income, by building multi-year partnerships totalling millions of pounds, then leading delivery and impact measurement of projects and programmes.- Leading on communications and engagement across environmental issues, writing for a variety of media, speaking at events of all sizes and appearing on BBC Breakfast, Sky News and Times Radio.- Sitting on the UK Government’s Net Zero Business Taskforce and, Water Leaders’ Group; BSI’s Net Zero Advisory Group and Race to Zero Accelerators.- Facilitating collaborative, system level innovation projects to address issues such as urban flood resilience; land stewardship with agricultural supply chains and influencing consumer behaviour. - Overseeing the sustainability assessments of circa 250 Royal Warrant holders per year. - Running virtual and in person events, from leadership roundtables to large conferences, with excellent NPS and usefulness scores.
