About Giovanna Guerrero-Medina, Ph.D.

I work to empower scientists to share the excitement of science, increase underserved communities’ access to the benefits that come from scientific inquiry and knowledge, and promote the integration of cultural identity and scientific identity. Over 15 years leading STEM professional development and education programs and developing strategic initiatives. Through my programs, I have helped hundreds of undergraduate students from underserved institution access advanced training programs in health and science; I have supported the PhD completion and career success of hundreds of PhD students from historically underrepresented backgrounds; and I have led programs and faculty recruitment practices that have resulted in the hiring of dozens of new STEM faculty members committed to inclusion. An experienced grant writer, I have secured millions of dollars in NIH, NSF, and foundation funding. I am a nationally-recognized expert in STEM education and DEI topics, having served on two National Academies reports and a multi-disciplinary working group on emerging careers advising the AAAS Council.
