Guilherme Carneiro Monteiro Nitschke is a Partner of the Litigation and Arbitration practice groups at TozziniFreire Advogados, having a broad experience in commercial arbitrations and investment procedures before several different institutions and in cases at all levels of the Judiciary Branch in Brazil. His expertise also includes contractual consultative matters, negotiation of complex contracts and civil litigation for M&A transactions. In 2015, Guilherme worked as a visiting associate at Dechert (Paris) LLP, in the International Arbitration team. He is also the Vice-President of the Brazilian Arbitration Committee (CBAr), Executive Secretary of the ICC Brazil Commission on Arbitration and ADR (2021-2023), Member of the ICC Global Commission on Arbitration and ADR, Member of ALARB, Director of the Arbitration Chamber of Federasul and of the local bar (OAB/RS) Arbitration and Mediation Chamber.Guilherme also holds a PhD in Civil Law from the University of São Paulo, with a thesis about filling gaps in contracts being awarded as the Best Civil Law Thesis of USP in 2018; and a master’s degree from the University of Rio Grande do Sul with a dissertation about hardship in international contracts. He authored several books and articles on civil law and arbitration, and is a professor of law in postgraduate courses.Guilherme is acknowledged as a “rising arbitrator” by the Rising Arbitrators Initiative (RAI), being also listed as arbitrator in many of the main Brazilian arbitral institutions (CAMARB, AMCHAM, ARBITAC, CAF, etc.), and recommended by some of the most prestigious legal guides (Chambers, Latin Lawyer 250, The Legal 500, Análise Advocacia, Leaders League).
