Guillaume Cailleau lives and works as an artist in Berlin and locates himself artistically at the intersections of film, performance and sound art. Cailleau studied at the University of the Arts (UdK), Berlin (DE). He previously obtained an engineer Degree at the ICAM in Nantes (FR).He is also the founder & Director of the Artist Film Production company CaSk Films (www.caskfilms.com) and a member of the noise duo Kreuser/Cailleau as well of other music project.Cailleau watches where it is politically and socially disturbing: an animal testing lab, a banknote printing plant, or a military uniform factory. Using various techniques of analog and digital intervention, he reworks his documentary material to the point of abstraction. At the same time, he captures the staging of the process of intervention in the material, thus shifting levels of meaning. The forms of his works thus refer directly to their subjects. It is often too close, too far, too fast, it vibrates, it is silent or loud. His works are shown at film festivals and artistic institutions worldwide. In 2007, Cailleau made his first short film "Blitzkrieg" (International Short Film Festival Oberhausen). Other films followed such as "Through" (Berlinale 2009), "H(I)J" (NYFF, 2009) and "Austerity Measures" with Ben Russell (Berlinale, 2012). In 2014 he won the Silver Bear at the Berlinale with his short film "LABORAT", and in 2016 the Jury Prize at the Oberhausen Short Film Festival (MuVi Award) with his video work "Organ movement for Elmer Kussiac". In 2018 he was Artist in Residence in Circuit Artist Film and Video Aotearoa, NZ. In 2020, Cailleau received the Berlin AIR Fellow Fellowship (in Guanajuato, MX) and was be nominated as a producer for the German Short Film Award (Experimental Film) with the film "a Demonstration". His artistic works have been shown at Bangkok Art & Culture Centre, Royal Ontario Museum, House of World Cultures, Centre Pompidou, etc. In 2016 he staged "Get Lost in November" at the Gorki Theater and regularly designs video installations for Schaubühne, Gorki Theater, Radial System, etc. He is part of the audiovisual performance duo project "Kreuser/Cailleau" and collaborates with musicians, directors & choreographers such as W. Dafeldecker, Ensemble Phoenix 16, T. Ostermeier and A.-C. Vandalem.
