I joined IFRC during the initial stages of its expansion following the tsunami in December 2004, helping set up the IT/Telecom systems being used by both IFRC and Red Cross Red Crescent Societies operational in Sri Lanka.I was in charge of the IT Department at IFRC’s Sri Lanka Delegation, taking over from an international delegate in August 2006. The IT Department maintains IFRC’s entire WAN/LAN network, covering five offices across the country, through a centralized VPN which is running voice and Data traffic. (VoIP network). The Department I oversee also maintains all peripheral equipment, including Cisco Call Managers Satellite phones (Thuraya, Bgans, and R Bgan’s), Servers, Cisco Routers, Cisco Switches, firewall, laptops, desktops, network printers, Wi-Fi networks and VoIP networks.
