I have been managing the effort of building a "Database as a Service" for PostgreSQL for a year now. Our first product called GDS (Global Database as a Service) which provides globally distributed Multi-Master, Single-Master and very highly available Always-On architectures in multiple Cloud platforms. I started working for 2ndQuadrant as a Remote Database Engineer to support 2ndQuadrant customers all around the world. While covering support shifts, I started to work on our "Trusted PostgreSQL Architecture" which is written in Ansible to automate all sorts of PostgreSQL related operations. I wrote Ansible scripts to help developing features like tuning PostgreSQL configurations, creating and managing backups and recovery, key management and encryption, log infrastructure, provisioning and deployment scripts, configuring PostgreSQL extensions and many more. Building an automated architecture for PostgreSQL lead to the change of my role in the company to Site Reliability Engineer which I enjoyed and benefited so deeply. This whole experience also prepared me for my current role as "Cloud Services Manager" and I continue to use my previous experience in Cloud Automation and PostgreSQL Management to build a Database as a Service. I have been giving talks to share my experience with PostgreSQL, Ansible, and DevOps in general at many conferences. I also have been organizing PostgreSQL community conferences (PGConf.EU 2016 in particular), participating as staff or program committee or all at the same time.

PostgreSQL Europe, an "umbrella group" for PostgreSQL User Groups in Europe and for users in regions that don't have a local user group. Our goal is to promote the use of PostgreSQL in Europe. We do this primarily by assisting local user groups to promote the product locally through conferences and other advocacy, as well as running European-wide conferences and other activities.

Markafoni was the pioneering and leading private shopping site of Turkey. Markafoni had more than 6 million users and selling more than 800,000 products in a month. As a DBA, I was responsible for all production, alpha, beta and test databases which include Markafoni, Markafoni ERP, vertical sites (zizigo.com, enmoda.com, misspera.com) and vertical ERPs (about 30 DB servers). I’m a part of System and Operation IT Team, so I work collaboratively with sysadmins. Our relational database solution is PostgreSQL and we are using MongoDB for NoSQL needs. As a DB Developer, I was working with developers for query optimizing, function or stored procedure necessities etc. As a Mentor, I shared my experiences with our junior DBAs and some of our IT interns. I attended many tech conferences and gave speeches during my time in Markafoni, all can be found on my slides.com account.

Tuttur.com is world's first social betting platform. I worked as Tuttur's database administrator. Tuttur was aiming to minimize consistency problems for the first step of the new project by database side. I was working on issues related to inconsistency situations, new features, reporting requirements, table/column/function/view developments etc. I was also responsible for installing databases, maintaining stable versions, upgrading and managing different databases on different servers. For my daily routine, I was consulting application developers for query optimization, using appropriate database functionality for their scripts as well helping them for data related tasks and answering their questions. When we were developing a new feature, we were deciding improvements and the changes together with our product team considering customer requests. I was analyzing the database architecture and planning the new schema. We were using PostgreSQL as our relational database and MongoDB as a document-based NoSQL database.We migrated our main database from MySQL to PostgreSQL at the end of 2012. When we were evaluating the two databases in our staging environments, we were satisfied with the superiority of PostgreSQL when it comes to performance and scalability. Then we confirmed the same effect after the migration in production.
