About Gün Akkor

Great products are not built by great Engineering teams solving a technology problem; they are built by Engineering teams solving a technology problem toward a business outcome. Engineering teams can solve for the right business outcome only if both the Engineering and Product teams know the business and customers deeply; understand customers' needs and pain points. But that's not enough; they should also be technology savvy enough to appreciate the implications of implementing the solution so that right trade offs are made at every step to deliver the desired business outcome. The job is only done when the product is delivered to solve the business problem (distilled from Marty Cagan's "Inspired".)I have been operationalizing technology for solving customer problems for two decades. Firmly rooted in the belief that building products that matter requires intimate understanding of what customers want to accomplish--and not necessarily what they want to buy--I bring technology leadership that readily incorporates product, customer success, marketing and sales context into engineering.

Listed skills include C++, C, Matlab, Systems Engineering, and 43 others.

At the foundation of many cybersecurity challenges is a deceptively simple problem: lack of a current and complete inventory of enterprise devices. This is not a new insight, but as an industry we are recognizing that status quo is no longer good enough. At Sevco Security, we recognize that the key challenge is not the lack of data about assets, but that each tool in your security stack represents an incomplete subset of the true total. We integrate with your sources, correlate and consolidate their data, and present you a single source of truth. Interested in learning about us? Visit us at sevcosecurity.com

Chief Scientist

Gaithersburg, Md, Us

Designed and prototyped a channel-bonding network stack for the company's Visuality surveillance and security product line. This network stack, which is implemented in an embedded Linux environment, bonds multiple similar or dissimilar wireless network interfaces into a virtual network interface for transmission of high quality multimedia streams.Implemented an algorithm that adaptively controls the output bit-rate of multiple video encoders based on an estimate of the available network bit-rate in order to maintain continuous streaming of multiple multimedia streams. This resource allocation algorithm is patent pending and has since become part of Patton's Visuality product line.Played a key role in a 3-year $800,000+ government project on situational awareness and assessment that resulted in a new product line. Prototyped the system using commercial-of-the-shelf (COTS) equipment and participated in field trials. Collaborated with software and hardware engineering teams to move the COTS design to an embedded platform. Wrote the specification for audio/video DSP encoders, defined the DSP to CPU communication interface, designed and implemented a machine-to-machine communication interfaceLead two technology partnership programs, integrating Patton's surveillance/security systems to 3rd party systems. Designed the application programming interface and coordinated the efforts of various engineering teams.Developed software components responsible from quality of service (QoS), stateful firewall management, core routing and NAPT for an embedded Linux operating system.

Graduate Research Assistant

College Park, Md, Us

Devised a multicast-aware power allocation scheme for use in multiple spot-beam satellite systems that improved the utilization of the system as well as the users' perceived quality of service in a work supported in part by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The proposed method achieved up to 30% increase in sustainable session rates of multicast flows while maintaining per flow fairness to unicast flows in computer simulations.Formulated a mathematical framework for addressing the feedback implosion problem in resource-constrained uplink channels. The proposed methods achieved good feedback collection and error recovery by tracking only 5% of the multicast group size in computer simulations, thereby significantly reducing the need for uplink time slots for feedback transmission.Worked with a team of researchers on simulation modeling and performance analysis of mobile ad hoc networks using OPNET. Work supported in part by Lockheed Martin Global Telecommunications (LMGT) and The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Network Modeling and Simulation Program (DARPA-NMS).
