I am an interdisciplinary-trained scientist fascinated by the complex mechanisms that evolved in the arms race between pathogens and their hosts. With my team I am investigating the molecular basis of virulence, innate immune defense, and susceptibility to opportunistic bacterial respiratory pathogens with the ultimate aim to develop new therapies, which involve a host-directed component, restoring or enhancing the body’s natural capacity to resolve the infection and regenerate.
