As Chief of Staff for National University and Chief Transformation Officer of The National University System, my core responsibilities were to support the President, Provost and Chancellor to articulate and communicate the operational strategy to the board, faculty and staff, to establish swim lanes that enable effective centralized cost reduction efforts, to enable consistent execution by building systems of accountability OKRs and metrics, and to execute a program management office (PMO) to push a wide ranging set of initiatives forward quickly. This work was an extension of the consulting work I did from 2017-2020 while a partner at Entangled Solutions/COO of Entangled Ventures.

The Entangled Group is a Venture Studio with two primary activities aimed at helping the education ecosystem transition from being optimized to support an industrial economy to being optimized to support the knowledge economy. The first main activity is professional services like strategy consulting, technology development, and sales and marketing infrastructure consulting aimed at universities, corporate learning and foundations. The second main activity is tech-enabled venture creation where we've built Practice (sold to Instructure), ReUp, PathStream, and Embark. We also do some early stage investing opportunistically from time to time including investments in raise.me, TargetX, Edmit, Koru, Toolwire, Viridis and others.As COO, I'm overall responsible for the performance of the Entangled Group including the P&L, growth, sales operations, professional development, and venture incubation efforts.

I've dabbled in all other aspects of both place-based and online education. Other Experience:TeamPlay:Attempted “disruptive” approach to mentorship targeting inner-city youth. Observed an abundance of demand for mentors and demand to be a mentor, but saw high cost barriers typically preventing effective connection. TeamPlay concept was to reduce the barriers by using a simple technology to enable a team mentorship – ie many to one. Better for the mentee because it increases their access to resources. And better for the mentor because they can play an appropriate role on a team without being overwhelmed by responsibility.Closed when funding ran out. InsideTrack:Internal Consultant and Operating Vice President. Ran $6M P&L and ~85 person organization with 8 operating units. Identified key messages and measurements necessary for driving results for ITL’s “success coaching operations” targeting attrition reduction for college students. Innosight Consulting:Contracted with Clay Christensen’s Innovation Consulting firm while performing initial research for his book Disrupting Class: How Disruptive Innovation will Change the Way the World Learns. Also built a defensive strategy for an orthodontics company whose core business was being attacked by a low-cost off-shore competitor.
