I am an experienced software engineer, manager, staff architect, and technology educator. I was trained in physics, worked in commercial software development for a long time, and dabbled in specialized recruiting and organizational culture work. At together.science, my partners and I are working to bring STEM learning into the 21st century. At Eastside Preparatory School, I was the go-to person for every capable student who wanted to master more, and more complex, material. I taught classes in Computer Science from the introductory level through algorithms and data structures and beyond, coached afternoon efforts in robotics, built a Farnsworth-Hirsch nuclear reactor, and repaired a scanning electron microscope. I am fluent in English and German. I can comfortably write code in Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, R, C#, C, SQL, and a number of bygone languages. At Microsoft and other companies, I worked in database systems, compilers, IDEs, web servers, microcontrollers, machine learning, natural language processing, and advanced physics simulations. I have started teams from scratch, reorganized existing teams, and managed the acquisition of a company. I have recruited well over 100 individual contributors and mid-level managers.Almost 2 years ago, I enrolled in the UC Berkeley Masters of Information and Data Science (MIDS) program and have now graduated. It has been an incredible journey catching up with the rapidly emerging field of data science.I love working on hard problems. I love working with smart people.
