The interdisciplinary team of the study group "nutritional-neuroscience" that I lead is dedicated to explore the underlying mechanisms of brain ageing and of neurodegenerative diseases and it`s modulation by food-based prevention and pharmacological intervention. To understand neurodegenerative diseases is one of the major challenges of the 21st century since the global trend in the phenomenon of population aging has dramatic consequences for public health, healthcare financing and delivery systems in the world. As food-chemist and pharmacologist Gunter Eckert is working at the interface of nutrition and pharma. Together with an in-depth knowledge in toxicology his expertise allows the competent assessment of food and its differentiation from drugs.
