I could not leave the engineering on the side, so I have started a small business with two friends and ex-colleagues from Jabil. We have developed a product, better know as GiD (GPS Interface Device) to control Garmin GPS devices within emergency vehicles via TETRA radio's. Our product makes track-and-trace and vehicle status tracking possible via the TETRA network (= ASTRID in Belgium). We really made a difference in the world of emergency services by having the GPS ready for departure when the driver arrives and reducing vehicles time registration by automation. Mistakes on the destination are now reduced to the conversation between the call takers and the people who report an incident. Without our product, there is a lot more verbal communication needed to give direction to the driver, with communication mistakes as a possible consequence.With the 3 of us we have done mechanical development, electronical development, embedded software development, testing, mass production startup and development of supporting software tools for the end users.We consider it a hobby among 3 friends, and we are very proud of the product which we have created. Started out as volunteer firefighter in 2002 and promoted to volunteer officer in 2008.The fire department in Bilzen has has also a small fire station in the region Voeren. We are part of the regional fire service Limburg Oost. Genk - Belgium

I am the director of PLOT fire-school in Genk, Belgium. With a team of 10 co-workers an 70 freelance instructors we supply firefighting and rescue training of all levels, from the use of small extinguishers up to compartment fire and industrial fire training. We provide training to over 14.000 visitors a year, from baby daycare attendants up to professional firefighters.Beside our standard training programs, we are specialized in fire hazard training fitted to the needs of our customers. We do projects where we evaluate the risks and the need for training in cooperation with the local safety adviser and we create customized training programs. Our personal customer approach makes us able to grow each year and keep our customers happy.We are currently expanding the training ground with one acre and we are automating the industrial fire training area.My tasks are HR, business development in order to get new customers, financial control, leading purchasing (creating tenders), networking, project management of construction works and innovation. Our team is very innovative minded, we are always looking for improvement. We create and invent a lot of fire training objects our self and we do our own software projects to automate our complete administration and to measure and control the fire training objects to increase safety, performance and pedagogical support.
