Marine Life & Coastal Restoration Program Leader. Leading four open enrollment 2-week sessions of high school students on service assignments and recreational activities during Summer Season of 2018 in the Dominican Republic.

As a (full-time / year-round) permanent ocean lifeguard / marine safety officer aboard the Pacific Monarch, under the supervision of the Captain (or in his absence, the 1st Mate): provides lifeguard protection and ensures the general water safety and well being of passengers, crew members and visitors. Responsibilities include: detecting and preventing incidents due to hazardous conditions and/or hazardous behavior; responding to incidents in, on, under or near the water; responding to medical emergencies; performing assists and water rescues accordingly; enforcing rules and regulations; responding to marine fires aboard; providing safety debriefing to passengers and crew when needed; reporting incidents and filling incident report forms and other documentation accordingly; maintaining communications along the ship’s chain of command and with outside lifeguard agencies and other public safety agencies when needed; maintaining rescue equipment and restocking emergency medical supplies; debriefing other lifeguard(s) and crew members on EAPs (Emergency Action Plans); helping coordinate and participating in drills and other In-Service Training sessions; keeping certification current and valid; staying on-call while aboard and off duty; staying reachable while off duty and off the ship. I worked as as an ocean lifeguard at the remote beach town of Playas Doradas for the Municipal Government of Sierra Grande, in the province of Rio Negro on Argentina´s Atlantic Coast in Patagonia, along with 6 other lifeguards. As the municipal lifeguard service, which functioned as a division of the Secretariat of Tourism, had no equipment at all, each of us had our own rescue and medical equipment. Municipal Tourism pretended to hire us under the table (illegally), not as municipal employees, and pay us less than half of what the seasonal grant from the provincial government paid them for each of us. In addition to that, numerous other violations to the Rio Negro provincial lifeguard law were detected by us. Reason why I refused to sign the contract (which was given to us long after the season had already started and we were guarding the beaches with 48-hour week schedules. After I resigned I filed an official complaint at the provincial Labor/Work Secretaritat and the National Labor/Work Ministry in addition to sending a formal letter of complaint to the municipal tourism secretary himself and the mayor. -Which resulted in the latter firing the municipal tourism secretary and some relative improvements to the lifeguard service in subsequent seasons. This was to be my last time working in the public sector ever, tired of government corruption, I decided from then on, to work exclusively through my own lifeguard service company.

Camp Laney is an ACA accredited independent summer camp for boys aged 8-14. Through a structured program which includes classic sports, adventure sports, water activities, horse back riding and other outdoor activities, campers develop self-confidence, comradery, and sportsmanship values. As a waterfront director / river lifeguard supervisor, besides performing general lifeguard duties, giving basic instruction on canoeing and kayaking, supervising the waterfront during recreational activities and escort groups during rafting trips, I was in charge of developing the Aquatics Section EAPs, coordinate River-only and Joint In-Service Training Sessions, carry staff performance evaluations, oversee lifeguard stand assignments and rotations as well as assist with staffing and scheduling. Also, in 2007 I helped designing and running an award patch program that has as a main objective to teach campers basic rescue and water safety, increasing their confidence in the aquatic environment. Pool and lake waterfront lifeguard general duties (prevention, rule enforcement, first aid, …) during three one-week sessions at their end of season. Watching and assisting youth groups during their morning activities and families during the afternoons. Watching and assisting motor boat, sail boat, and kayak users. Be assigned once a week to the rescue boat to provide safety support during the triathlon organized by the resort. On occasions be assigned to watch night time parties for children and teenagers at the pool. Booker Boarding Adventures, Limited Liability Company offered young boys and girls unique experiences while they learned a board-sport either on a snowed mountain or on a sunny beach. In the year 2007 the company organized the first surf camp in Bradley Beach (Monmouth County). In addition to the technical skills, basic ocean safety, and surf conditions and currents understanding, the kids learned the philosophy and healthy life style that go together with the surfer culture. The kids received instruction from surf instructors in a 1-4 ratio. As the only ocean lifeguard, I had to ensure both water and weather conditions were safe, perform preventive actions, give introductory talks about ocean safety, rip currents and other hazards, perform general lifeguard duties and communicate with Bradley Beach Beach Patrol lifeguards, captains and chief.2007 Season: Ocean Lifeguard.2008 Season: Ocean Lifeguard.
