Gus completed a Bachelor of Design with First Class Honours majoring in Industrial Design at Massey University of Wellington in 2020. Gus was a Massey Scholar achieving Academic Excellence. Gus was selected to be part of a small team in a design internship, creating innovative product solutions for a medical sleep-based research project with Massey University in collaboration with the Auckland District Health Board for two consecutive years. Gus was engaged by Massey University to design and manufacture an innovative and new specialised medical product for an international research project led by a professor with international recognition. With a passion for design and innovation, Form 53 | Gus Leen Design evolved. Establishing a market for bespoke floor, table and lighting designs with innovative concealed wiring and light sources manufactured from sustainable materials. As a startup, this has included establishing a manufacturing workshop, design studio and office space with a team of 6. Building a national network that includes 11 stockists nationwide and a growing online store. The initial Conic Floor Lamp design received a highly commended award at the 2018 ECC New Zealand Student Craft Design Awards. This proof-of-concept idea has since transitioned into a commercial product range. Form 53 | Gus Leen Design continues to evolve.
