About Gustavo G.

Imagination is more important than knowledge. This quote is attributed to Einstein and I truly believe it to be true. My research point of view is based on the sociological imagination. The idea that we can understand society by placing ourselves is the shoes of others. As a market researcher, I strive to put myself in the life experiences of those I am trying to understand, both from a logical (purchase decision) standpoint and an emotional (brand driver) one.

  • Envirosell
    Senior Advisor
    Envirosell Jul 2016 - Dec 2016
    New York, Ny, Us
As a Senior Advisor, I assisted the business development team in creating customized approaches that helped answer clients' business objectives. Building an ad-hoc approach that helped answer difficult business questions is the reason Envirosell created this position. Assisted clients from the initial proposal, through project design, fielding, and results, assured the project's success. I also kept my eyes and ears open in search of new methodologies. I vetted new techniques to make sure they were reliable and accurate and not just the latest shiny research toy.
  • Envirosell
    Director Of Research & Methodology
    Envirosell Jul 2006 - Jul 2016
    New York, Ny, Us
As the Director of Research & Methodology, I wore many hats. As the head researcher, I implemented, evaluated, and supervised the executions of many different, qualitative and quantitative, methodologies globally. These included non-intrusive observational, qualitative and quantitative interviews conducted in-store, in-home or internet based, focus groups and ideation sessions, eye-tracking, SMS and mobile applications.Additionally, I designed and implemented, with the help of my great team (see below), new research methods that answered clients' research questions, as well as worked with clients to explain and implement the findings. Some of the tools I developed that successfully launched to market were mobile diaries, SMS touch-point analysis, and Web-Alongs. I directly supervised a very talented and great team of approximately nine full and part-time staff of data analysts, transcribers, quality control specialists, video research assistants, and data entry personnel. As part of Sr. Staff, I helped guide and advised the CEO and COO on strategic decisions and new client acquisition working closely with the business development team. While my role was not a direct sales role, my involvement with the business development team was instrumental, especially in creating customized approaches that helped answer clients' business objectives.I designed and ran company-wide methodology seminars. Past topics include Basic Introduction to Statistics, Survey Design, Conducting Qualitative Interviews, and New Technologies for Conducting Observations and In-Store Research. As part of the global team, I helped oversee the network of licensees, ensuring standardized research practices across the network. I also assisted in seeking new agencies to increase the network of global licensees. Lastly, as part of Sr. Staff, I advised the CEO and COO on research methods, growth initiatives, and sales and marketing strategies.
  • Envirosell
    Data Department Manager
    Envirosell Jan 2001 - Jul 2006
    New York, Ny, Us
Managed the data department team composed of full and part-time staff of data analysts, data entry specialists, and video data analysts. Developed efficiencies in data collection and processing which allowed the company to consolidate data collection methods from multiple departments to a single data department, making the company more profitable and efficient. Modernized intercept surveys tools by bringing in a mobile platform for conducting surveys that at the time was cutting edge (using Techneos technology, now Confirmit Mobile). This technology reduced interviewer error, eliminated the need for data entry, and quickened the process of data cleaning. The business results were substantial cost savings and much quicker turnaround times for our clients. This new process resulted in Envirosell being a pioneer in mobile research. This position also allowed me to work with other departments (project management and sales team) to customize project methodology design and implementation. There was also an increased integration with project managers to assist them in the display and interpretation of statistical data including recommendations and conclusions.Design and lead a successful series of methodology training sessions for data collectors, analysts, project managers, and international partners to standardize best practices and minimize data collection errors both domestically and internationally. Vetted and worked with outside vendors to outsource procedures when it made financial sense. Additionally, I research and develop new methodologies and field technologies to optimize operations and broaden the company product offerings.
