I began my career with the Missoula Police Department in April 1990 and became a Detective in October 2000. Prior to becoming a Detective, I initially worked Uniform Patrol for five years and then spent the next five years assigned to the Street Crimes Unit. As a Detective, I work violent crime and have been the case agent or lead investigator on over a thousand state and federal criminal cases. Since December 2010, I've been a Task Force Officer assigned to a FBI Safe Streets Task Force that targets gang, gun and drug violence. I also specialize in sex trafficking investigations and am a member of the United States Attorney's Office District of Montana Human Trafficking Task Force. I'm Senior Vice President of the Northwest Gang Investigators Association and have served on its Executive Board since May 1999. I'm also a Subject Matter Expert contracted with the National Gang Intelligence Center on the topic of Gang-Involved Sex Trafficking. My other professional affiliations have included President of the Montana Violent Crime Investigators Association, Vice President of the Mountain States Tactical Officers Association and memberships with the California Gang Investigators Association and the Montana Narcotics Officers Association. I've been a certified instructor tbrough the Montana Law Enforcement Academy since June 1996. During the last twenty-five years, I've done hundreds of presentations on Street Gangs for law enforcement, schools and communities across the Northwest. Over the last decade, I've trained over three thousand law enforcement officers and justice system personnel on Sex Trafficking Investigations and I've made a concerted effort to educate the public about sex trafficking in their communities. I also spent sixteen years (1995-2011) on the SWAT team as an Operator and Assistant Team Leader. During my career, I've been the recipient of a Police Medal, Life Saving Medal, Meritorious Achievement Medal and two Meritorious Service Medals by the Missoula Police Department. I have also received a Victims Service Award from the United States Attorneys Office, as well as, an Exceptional Service Award and the Directors Award from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
