Role change to concentrate on project work, while still providing 3rd line support. The Virtualisation Project was the first project in the new role. Initially the scope was to assess the existing environment and its requirements with respect to virtualisation, including future growth projections. Then to construct a test lab to evaluate software (VMware vSphere & MS Server 2008 Hyper-V), and hardware (Dell EqualLogic iSCSI SAN unit). Lastly to design a topography to facilitate business requirements for service resilience.Collaborate with Dell sales team to define hardware/software requirements, and finalise the proposal for review by senior partner. Collaborate with Dell implementation team to install and configure the new equipment in each site, virtualise all the physical servers, and troubleshoot ongoing issues. I installed 13 hosts in 5 sites – connected to EqualLogic iSCSI SANs via Dell PowerConnect 6224 L3 switches.BlackBerry High Availability ProjectAssess options for upgrading BES 4.1.4.25 to improve stability and functionality, and to increase resilience. Build a test BESX 5.0.2 virtual server, and test user migration. Develop a plan to implement a BESX server in each site, such that site loss only affects local BES users.
