Bentley Capital is a Listed Investment Company that takes strategic stakes in listed and unlisted assets with a primary focus on the resource sector. As a senior analyst I have responsibility for seeking out and analysing potential investment opportunities and presenting them to the CIO and investment committee. As well as the analysis I have been involved with establishing screening systems for idea generation.

From January 2010 I took over running the Clime Commodities Fund. My responsibilities include stock selection and portfolio construction. The commodities fund is designed to invest in ASX listed companies that derive their profit from commodities. Performance of the fund from January 1 to August 31 was -3.5% compared to the S&P/ASX 300 Resources Accumulation Index return of -7.4%. The fund performance included a write down of an inherited unlisted investment, stripping this out fund performance was +1.9% giving outperformance of 9.3%. Top positive contributors were MIN, AVO and EQN. Top negative contributors were CVN and NMG. The fund had approximately $7m funds under management.- Senior Investment AnalystAs Senior Investment Analyst I had primary responsibility for ensuring accurate data within our valuation tool, StockVal. I also had primary responsibility for determining required returns and forecasting Net Profit after Tax and hence Return on Equity for all companies we cover. I had research responsibilities ranging across many sectors. In particular: Energy, Materials, Financials, Consumer Discretionary, Consumer Staples and Small Cap Industrials. I also wrote company research for our retail client base as well as various affiliate websites.

Portfolio Manager – Micro Cap FundAs the portfolio manager of the Micro Cap Fund I had responsibility for analysing companies with market capitalisations of less than A$250m as well as portfolio construction. The fund had approximately A$20m FUM.Portfolio Manager – Property FundAs the portfolio manager of the Property Fund I had responsibility for analysing both Australian and global property stocks as well as portfolio construction. The portfolio was wound up due to the closing of our retail distribution arm. Performance of the fund was above benchmark.Investment Analyst – Small Cap FundAs an investment analyst within the firm’s Small Cap team I undertook research and analysis on companies outside the S&P/ASX 100 Index and provide support for the portfolio managers, Peter Mouatt and Stephen Atkinson. Sectors I covered were Property, Infrastructure and Utilities, Diversified Industrials, Oil and Gas, Gold and Iron Ore. DealerI had primary responsibility for dealing activities across all of the firm’s portfolios.

Macquarie Private Bank provides investment and wealth management advice to ultra high net worth clients. I had primary responsibility for creating and maintaining a recommended model investment portfolio for these clients, covering all asset classes. I was responsible for undertaking due diligence research and analysis on a broad range of investment options, including direct listed shares, managed share funds, hedge funds and private equity. I was also responsible for recommending changes to asset allocation.
