I graduated as a documentary director at the Royal Institute for Theatre, Cinema and Sound (RITCS) in Brussels. Before enrolling at my filmschool, I worked for many years as a journalist, television reporter and podcaster for the public broadcaster VRT. Together with a fellow journalist, I twice won the Belfius Press Prize, the most important journalistic prize in Belgium. One for the television report 'The Divided Class', about a famous American social experiment about racism. The second press prize went to my podcast series 'The girls of the night', about human trafficking in Nigerian prostitution in Brussels. Out of a desire to think more deeply about my position as a storyteller, I left the VRT after 20 years and enrolled at the filmschool RITCS. Two of my bachelor films were selected at festivals: 'Léon Trouet Mokuna' was shown at the Leuven International Short Film Festival and is selected for the Toronto Black Film Festival, coming up in February. 'Hallebaan 3' was selected at the Independent Brussels Film Festival. My graduation film 'And if not now, when?' (2021) is an intimate essay documentary about the world of Paulette, one of the last remaining Jews in Marrakech, from what in 1940 was still a thriving community of 25,000 Jews. My film has been selected for the Sabam Evening on the International Documentary Festival Docville in Leuven, the shortlist of the Global University Film Awards in Hong Kong, and two shortfilmfestivals in Leuven and Tangier, last December.
