Guy is a chartered member of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and has over 16 years’ professional experience working in flood risk management. He is a highly experienced hydraulic modeller, project manager and project director, working on flood-related projects over a range of spatial resolutions. Within JBA Guy is a Flood Modelling lead, focusing on company wide data delivery efficiencies. He has developed skills in the following: flood risk mapping, options appraisals, rating reviews, defence optimisation, pipe networks, impact assessment for development, flood warning and flood estimation using FEH techniques. He is familiar with a range of GIS and modelling packages including; ArcGIS, MapInfo, QGIS, Flood Modeller, HEC-RAS, Infoworks and TUFLOW. Using his technical experience and university background he regularly acts as a technical project lead, mentors junior staff, and teaches a number of JBA courses. He has also developed bespoke model audit and 2D modelling courses for Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales and Scottish Environment Protection Agency staff. He is also a presenter for the hydraulics module of the University of Lancaster, UK-PGCert in Flood & Coastal Risk Management. Guy is a model reviewer and regularly undertakes independent hydraulic modelling reviews, providing quality assurance of models submitted in support of single site FRAs, detailed options appraisal and also larger catchment-scale models. Acting in this role requires clear communication of technical issues, often to a non-technical client and Guy has developed his communication skills to ensure complex issues can be conveyed in the most effective manner.Guy has produced numerous technical reviews and scientific reports. Recent examples include the analysis of the December 2015 floods (the analysis and discussion from which has subsequently been published in Hydrology Research) and the modelling of afforestation options for the Forestry Commission / Forest Research.
