From 1996 to 2006, I was promoted through managerial roles responsible for software development, IT infrastructure, and network management before being promoted to Deputy General Manager in 2006, a position in Mitsui that equated to Head of IT or IT Director in other companies.I was selected for a 12 month secondment to the Tokyo HQ from April 2009 to March 2010 where I worked on a global IT contracts and services review.Main responsibilities:• create and execute an IT strategy for EMEA region• manage the Europe wide IT function supporting 1200 staff in 50+ offices across 9 time zones• plan budgets for operations and multiyear programmes• build and coach the IT team,• ensure that IT operations maintain alignment with the business and external authorities• manage major projectsMajor achievements at Mitsui & CoThe challenge at Mitsui EMEA was devolved IT management to local offices many of which were too small to manage the responsibility. I created and agreed a plan with the business to centralise the operation of IT with comprehensive standards and clear KPIs defining services, security and DR. This IT strategy was the blueprint for transforming IT in Mitsui EMEA into a standardised and centralised suite of services. The objective was to update the existing IT, reduce unplanned outages, improve security, reduce costs through centralised purchasing and create a clear measurable IT budget. The IT strategy removed shadow and informal IT replacing it with standardised services professionally delivered, IT security was achieved and the resilience of IT services was improved with full disaster recovery.
