South East Queensland

We did extensive research into the printing industry, and found that there was space for a print business that was totally dedicated to service. There is no longer any mystique in printing, the machines are highly sophisticated, and produce awesome quality work, we settled on the state of the Art Minolta digital and Roland Versacam Wide format printing equipment, which allows us to be extremely competitive with short run print of most products, getting them done quickly, at highly competitive rates. We have an off-set division, where we take care of all the longer runs that are required by our clients. We recently upgraded to a new Ricoh, which has allowed us to be even faster, and more competitively priced. We pride ourselves at being able to print almost anything our customers need, from tiny stickers to huge banners, from single copies to tens of thousands of prints. We are able to turn your work around really fast, and are not afraid of working long hours and week-ends to get our clients projects complete, just let us know that your project is urgent, and we will leap into action!!!!We have implemented a 24 Hour turnaround policy, for many of our short run digital work, where we will have your work ready for collection, or to the courier within 24 hours (Mon - Friday), once we have received your print ready artwork - have a look on the website www.goldcoastprinters.net.au, give me a call on 0421 840 465 or email me on guy@goldcoastprinters.net.au, so that we can get you your quote asap.We promise to talk in English, and not in "printers speak", so that you can get your project done fast, on time, and at a reasonable price. As we see thousands of print projects, we would love to discuss your project and critique your work.We have a design department, who will make your artwork print ready, or create your project from inception.Give us a go!

Mar 2011 - Present

Shareholder

Tzaneen, South Africa

I became the primary investor in a venture capital deal to produce wood composite products in Tzaneen, South Africa. Unfortunately, the promises of the contracts with Chinese partners and South African operational staff were not met. I traveled to and from South Africa for the 4 years trying to manage the company as the managing director was unable to develop the company as per his brief. Sadly the company failed in 2011 and was liquidated.

Feb 2007 - Sep 2011

Partner

Sommerville Morris Partners

Gauteng, Pretoria, Witbank, Johannesburg

Once we had decided to emigrate to Australia, I sought out a partner, who would be able to run the Vodashop business while I was in Australia. Blaise Sommerville was the head of the Vodashop channel while I was a franchisee, and we had become very close associates and good friends. Blaise resigned from his position at Vodacom, and came to join me. We changed the business name to Sommerville partners, and on advice from a consultant, changed the entity to a partnership for tax reasons. Blaise ran the business when I left for Australia in 2005. I was to return to South Africa quarterly, which I did for 2005 and 2006 in my capacity as senior partner with Sommerville Morris. We were then approached to form a joint venture with two other entities, to list a company on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, with the three entities. There were 6 primary shareholders of which I was one. The entity was listed as Celcom. I had previously had reservations about the listing, which I had expressed to the other 5 partners, but being in Australia made it difficult to be influential . My misgivings proved to be prophetic, and after 18 months of trading, the entity was liquidated.

2005 - 2007 ~2 yrs

Director

Morris Communicatons Pty Ltd

Gauteng, South Africa

I was awarded the Vodashop in Menlyn Park on 1 November 1997. We started with 3 members of staff, my wife (Adeline) and I. I was set a 1 year target by the franchisor Vodacom to achieve 1200 connections in 4 months. I achieved 1204 activation's, and made the incentive. After 6 months, I realised that the business was scaleable, and set about growing the business. Over the next 6 years we grew the business to 9 shops and 2 workshops, with around 150 employees. We were the biggest Vodashop franchise in South Africa. In 2003 we were Vodacom Franchisee of the year, and in 2004 were South African franchisee of the year, beating all franchises in South Africa.During my time at Vodacom, I achieved every annual incentive program, travelling to all parts of the world, including Snow skiing in Austria (x 3), Cancun, Egypt, Mauritius, Norway, Australia (3) South West Africa. I was also awarded the Chairman's award every year, which came with further travel incentives including The World Cup soccer in Korea, The Olympic Games in Athens, World Cup Rugby in Sydney, and skiing in Austria.During my tenure at Vodacom, I was the Chairman of the Vodashop council, and in this position, was responsible for all communications and marketing between the franchisee and 128 franchise outlets. I was also responsible for assisting in selection of new franchisee's. As the owner of the business, my duties were the strategic direction of the business, communication with the franchisor, training of sales staff and implementation of new stores. The job required general management capabilities, and the ability to install systems into the retail environment. In 1999, I was hijacked twice, and at the same time did not like the direction that South Africa was headed. We had also traveled to Australia on an incentive, and loved the country. We decided then that we would emigrate. Over the next 2 years, we traveled 5 times to Australia, and decided to move to the Gold Coast (why wouldn't you?)

Nov 1998 - Sep 2005

Regional Sales Manager

Vodacom South Africa

Johannesburg Area, South Africa

I was promoted to Regional Sales Manager, and was responsible for the "Northern Transvaal", an area that extended from Midrand (between Johannesburg and Pretoria) and the Northern border of South Africa. My team comprised of around 15 sales consultants. My team was responsible for all corporate sales in the region, and around 400 dealerships, which needed to be trained and encouraged to promote Vodcom products. We were also required to sign up new dealerships, and implement Vodacom policies and procedures with the new and existing dealers. I achieved the sales incentive in both years as Regional Sales Manager. In the second year, Vodacom decided to implement retail stores, the first of which was to be implemented in a shopping center in Pretoria. This fell into my region, so I was responsible for the implementation and installation of the retail outlet from start to finish. As this was the first retail store that Vodacom opened in South Africa, we had to develop all the systems, and develop all the training for the stores. These manuals are still in use today. In the second half of 1997 I was told that the stores would be franchised, and I applied for the Menlyn park Store.

Managing Director

Goalfix South Africa

Johannesburg Area, South Africa

I began work with Goalfix as a salesman. Goalfix is a strategic financial planning package. My responsibilities were to find corporate companies and to sell the financial package. I ended up being the managing director of the business. The software had development problems, and at the same time, cellular was in it's infancy. A friend of mine had started with Vodacom (the equivalent of Vodafone in South Africa), and introduced me to Vodacom. I was fascinated with cellular communications, and applied.

She suggested that I should become a tour guide, and set up an interview with Contiki in London at the end of my tour. I was offered the job with Contiki and joined up with them In February of 1986.
