Deputy Ground Safety Officer

Current

Preston, Lancashire, United Kingdom

Sep 2019 - Present

Sergeant

Lancashire

I managed a large team, overseeing their deployment and the management of resources, responding to necessary austerity requirements, I have ensured the delivery of significant savings whilst maintaining exceptional service delivery. This included ensuring compliance with all legal and ethical requirements, supervising quality standards and liaising effectively with more senior team members.I was tasked with the management of response to critical incidents and a wide range of operational activities across a busy and challenging area. This diverse and demanding role required a fast, but considered, response to critical incidents and crime scenes. I bring an assured leadership approach, demonstrating an ability to manage a diversity of issues, to influence widely and to process information quickly and accurately. I established and maintained robust relationships with internal and external partners, ensuring the most positive outcomes for community members. During this time, I dealt successfully with a range of challenging issues including service delivery with severely restricted staffing levels whilst securing a reduction of resource spending. I managed serious crime scenes, with responsibility for first on scene securing of essential evidence and exercising full understanding and application of legal requirements in high priority cases. I also served as a custody manager. This challenging role required an ability to think calmly in high tension environments whilst remaining cognisant of the requirements of legal and moral demands. I was responsible for the reception, detention, release and overall care of individuals. I undertook the responsibility for often the most vulnerable in society on a daily basis and embraced what is regarded as one of the most stressful and high responsibility roles within policing.

Drugs Intelligence Field Officer / Constable

Divisional Intelligence Unit

Tasked to gather and manage intelligence in relation to drug dealing and manufacture. I prepared intelligence packages for presentation to magistrates in order to secure warrants; subsequently planning and delivering operations to recover evidence. This work often pushed out into wider intelligence management, particularly in relation to gang activity and firearms offences.

Constable

Dedicated Source Unit

This was a covert role, requiring high levels of confidentiality and discretion to manage high risk situations and ensure safety for both myself and the individuals involved.

Football Intelligence Officer - Constable

Intelligence Unit

Working to manage a significant growth in football hooliganism, I was tasked to work in close liaison with key partners, including football club officials, supporter groups and offending groups to develop intelligence. This often required extensive travel around the UK gathering evidence to secure banning orders for serious or persistent offenders. I also worked with the England National Team, travelling to fixtures to advise local police services, gather intelligence and to identify known offenders whilst documenting evidence by video. I was seconded to the National Intelligence office in London during the 2002 World Cup and the 2004 European Championship and was detailed to Germany with the team for the duration of the 2006 World Cup.

2000 - 2007 ~7 yrs

Dog Handler

Lancashire

I was selected to work as a specialist dog handler, training and developing both a general purpose dog and a specialist drug identification dog. This was a 24-hour responsibility role, requiring continuous training and commitment. I worked independently, responding to needs across a wide geographical area, and was successful in identifying offenders and securing numerous convictions.

Constable

Lancashire

Like all police officers, I began my service as a constable. I worked my way steadily through a range of training and development, affording me a strong foundation of enquiry, observation and personal interaction. I undertook a broad range of operational roles, including neighbourhood policing. I worked closely with the community addressing areas of concern, building strong relationships with a diverse number of groups and representatives. I worked on the Operational Support Unit, providing public order policing. I served in this fast response unit addressing some of the most challenging, dangerous and high pressure situations across the county. This role required the calmest and most reasoned approach to manage exceptionally demanding and heightened situations; this included all major public order events and large scale strategic operations.
