Living in a diverse city doesn’t necessarily mean that you interact with a diverse population. But a cultural initiative in Boston is trying to make the experience of going to a play or comedy show less racially and economically divided. The Jar, a non profit community building organization, has invented what it calls a Convener Model – in which a couple goes to a performance and invites two people they normally experience culture with and two people who may not look/pray/love like them whom they’d like to get to know better. So, the group might be an African-American woman, her daughter and her daughter's husband, and her Irish-American mailman and his wife. Or a young white gay couple, their two best friends, also gay and white, and an older Asian-American colleague and her spouse. The Mellon Foundation, the largest funder in the arts & humanities, recently granted $750,000 to The Jar, so that this model can be replicated across the country and help rebuild civic society.vimeo.com/jumpinthejar

As second-time/returning Artistic Director, I have started a new (academic) year-long initiative to develop new plays by Emerson College playwrights. The festival will focus on the playwrights by dedicating three months (Oct-Dec) to the development of each play by way of readings, peer reviewing, and a connection with professional, Boston-based playwrights who will be acting as mentors to the student playwrights. Subsequently, the plays will be in rehearsals (starting in Feb) and will receive a production in April, 2012. Responsibilities include: spearheading a committee that chooses the plays, overseeing a committee that chooses the directors, coaching the directors and playwrights throughout the process, and maintaining artistic integrity for the festival as a whole.

Artistic Director of RareWorks Theatre Company's annual New Play Festival. The festival took place in March, 2011. Artistic Directing responsibilities included: spearheading a committee that chose the plays, overseeing a committee that chose the directors for the festival, coaching the directors and playwrights throughout the process.

Collaborated with Emerson Professor and Director Robert Colby. Selected and arranged jazz standards for a live quartet (alto sax, tenor sax, upright bass, piano). Arranged and conducted a recording of "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" featuring trombono, trumpet, tenor saxophone, double bass, drums, and piano.

Assistant Directed The Lady With All The Answers (dir. Daniel Gidron), based on the life of Ann Landers. The show starred Stephanie Clayman, and was produced by the Nora Theatre Company.

Taught the music to a cast of 28; coached the soloists; taught, coached and conducted (live) a 9-piece pit band (1 piano, 2 violins, 1 cello, 1 bass, 1 guitar, 1 clarinet, 1 trumpet, 1 drum-set).

Taught various types of one-on-one classes (First Certificate preparation, TEFL training, Conversational English, Business English) at various levels (Elementary to Advanced) to business professionals (from emergency room doctors to top bank management directors)

Taught a class of 25 children of various ages (first to sixth graders). Directed the class in a production of “Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat," while teaching them how to read music.
