After graduating with distinction from the United States Naval Academy, I began my career as an officer in the challenging and intense US nuclear submarine force which demanded high standards of leadership and engineering attention to detail. After leaving the naval service and earning an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin, I continued to apply and develop my skills as a leader and hands-on manager in a variety of increasingly challenging roles in the chemicals and energy industries. The scope of my business career includes internal business controls audit; chemicals manufacturing; wholesale electric power transaction, valuation and structuring; retail electric power supply, risk management and operations; and LNG commercial operations spanning the entire LNG value chain. I have played key executive leadership roles in the start-up and growth of what became the third largest national retail electricity provider as well as in the strategic adaptation of the largest US LNG importer to the changed dynamics of the global LNG market.My knack for innovation is evident in many key contributions along the way, including a product profitability model, pricing / risk management systems and organization supporting the start-up and growth of a retail power business, an on-system product catalog allowing “mass customization” of complex retail power products and the creative restructuring of several long term LNG SPA and gas supply contracts generating considerable earnings in a rapidly changing market environment. With senior executive positions in a variety of roles in the energy industry, I have proven to be a well-rounded and well-respected leader that can set and retain focus on the strategic direction of a business while also attending to the proper execution of the day-to-day operational details that ultimately contribute to the success of the business in meeting its strategic goals.
