Lieutenant Guy Woodward joined the Royal Navy in 2013 as a Warfare Officer. Appointments followed in aircraft carrier HMS ILLUSTRIOUS, minehunters HMS CATTISTOCK and LEDBURY, and the Ice Patrol Ship HMS PROTECTOR, before he elected to stream submariner. In 2015 he joined HMS VICTORIOUS as Torpedo Officer, then Casing Officer, deploying on nuclear deterrent patrol. A short assignment to Navy Command Headquarters in Portsmouth followed. He then returned to the Fleet as the Casing Officer of HMS VENGEANCE, before transferring to work in Force Generation for the Submarine Flotilla.Guy currently works for the Defence Cultural Specialist Unit, where he spent his first year as Team Leader for Eastern Europe and Central Asia. In this role, he arranged the deployment of military cultural advisors to assist deployed British troops with understanding cultural factors. After a six-month language course, he retrained as a specialist advisor in Russian and Ukrainian culture.

In my role as a Cultural Advisor, I provide advice to UK military personnel from junior soldiers to senior commanders on the potential cultural implications of their actions when operating with Partner Nations. Operational deployments can vary between low level training missions to high level engagement with military and civilian leaders.My specialist field is Russia and former Soviet republics, but I am also capable of deploying to Spanish and French speaking countries when required.

Responsible for the delivery of luxury sailing yachts by sea in 3-person crews, including ocean passages of up to 30 days.

Designed, constructed and tested Electronic Warfare and surveillance systems for military and civilian applications.
