Kiwikit Clothing is a business venture I started In April of 2016 and was an idea of mine to expand from the previous business I owned "Harley Menswear" as well as incorporate my love of Sports into my daily life.Kiwikit Clothing supplies customised clothing, sportswear and apparel to local clubs and organisations around the country specialising in the sports listed below.CricketFootballHockeyRugbyNetballWe also supply customised work apparel to local businesses in the Health and Exercise industry as well as any business that requires their staff to be up on their feet all day and needs a performance enhancing material to wear on the job to keep them cool and refreshed, for example, Builders and other Tradies. The reason I changed businesses was because now I'm able to sell in bulk, I'm selling a product that my customers need and I'm able to scale the business as much or as little as I choose. So far so good. I have been able to develop our business processes over the last year and a half working a lot of the time without pay or sleep, while still being able to break even through word of mouth with the help of family and friends. I am now in the position where I am able to spend a lot more time on processing orders and making sales.I am excited for whats to come.
Busniess Development Manager
For Helping Hands I was a Business Development Manager, (which is a fancy name for a cold caller). I helped design their call strategy and helped them go from not only the Hospitality Industry but into the Retail Industry too.Effectively, Helping hands is an online recruitment company for full-time and part-time employment in both the Retail and Hospitality industries. Focussing mainly on floor and kitchen staff it enables store and restaurant owners and managers a hassle-free option when it comes to hiring staff and allows people looking for work in their fields the opportunity to be head hunted by potential employers. It was my job to communicate to potential business owners nationwide we thought would be interested in the "Helping Hands" product and service and get them to sign up to our website on a monthly subscription plan.I learnt a lot about communication and call strategies. Being able to do the hard sell over the phone was intimidating at first but once I started to realise that I was actually calling to sell a product that would overall help my potential customers I then go over the feeling that I was pestering people. It taught me about being resilient, as statistically, cold calling strategy hit rates are as low as 3%.I then decided that I no longer needed this job as my new business Kiwikit Clothing received a new order which was able to support me for the next 6 months while I set up the rest of the business.
Founder And Owner
This is a business venture I started up while I was at University studying Small Business and Entrepreneurship. I started this company as a way to learn. I know that I'm a practical learner that picks up information quite easily if it's something that I'm interested in and I am going to see some personal benefit from.I find it very hard to concentrate and stay focussed when someone is trying to throw knowledge at me through a textbook that I believe is going to be pointless to me and I will never use it again. Knowing this about myself I thought I would give myself a reason to listen and be eager to learn.Obviously another benefit of starting this business I was able to make a bit of money on the side as I was studying. In all honesty, I believe I learnt a lot more about business through starting up this company, that what I learnt at University. I learnt about the importance of having a quality product and service. I also learnt that just because you have a quality product doesn't mean that everyone is all of a sudden is going to want your product and/or sevice.Iv learnt the legal obligations of business ranging from:GST, ACC Levis, Income Tax, Trademarks, Patents, Incorporation and International Import and Export requirementsI've learnt about Business processes such as: International Import and Export, Manufacturing, Design,Branding,Order Processes,Collaboration,Customer Service,Sales Funnels,Inbound and Outbound Sales,Lead Generation,Customer Retention,Web Development.I learnt how to sell a product, to "sell the sizzle, not the sausage."Iv learnt how to find a target market and the importance of marketing strategy tools. And last but not least I learnt how to generate KPI's and reach targets I set for my business on a Monthly basis by setting S.M.A.R.T Goals. I eventually stopped this business as I decided that I had another business idea which had a much bigger earnings potential. "Kiwikit Clothing"
Sales Assistant, Key Holder
Being a sales assistant and Key holder at Barkers was a great job for me as it allowed be to put my customer service to good use. Reaching my daily target was never something I struggled with and I also learnt the art of upselling. I was a key holder which meant that I was given the responsibility of opening and closing the store in both the Takapuna and the Albany branches, both based in Auckland. Occasionally I would work at the Flagship store in High Street in Auckland's CBD.I ended up leaving this job over a contractual disagreement where I was mistreated as an employee. I still have not received my holiday pay which i had accumulated over the 2 year period i worked there.
Bartender
In this role, I was a bartender who had to work a flexible shift being available 7 days a week ranging from day shift and late nights. I had to have great customer service and be able to make a variety of cocktails, drinks and take meal orders as be able to provide great customer service throughout. I was also entrusted with the responsibility of cashing up at the end of the night.
Waiter
This was my fist part time job where I was taught the importance of customer service. I owe a lot to Bruce, the owner of this restaurant as he taught me a lot which I have been able to take into all my following roles.I was in charge of taking orders, running drinks, open and close, communicating with the kitchen and making desserts.I enjoyed my time here but I left as I was offered a higher paying role elsewhere.
