Our approach is hands-off from the UK and very hands-on from the Sri Lankan team - who know the situation on the ground in huge detail.Part of our work has included replacing dirty paraffin lamps with clean solar lamps to clean up the air in our students' homes and provide them with free lighting by which to do their homework in the dark tropical evenings. After wangling a job moving furniture at what was then called London News Radio (sister station to the better known LBC), I briefly followed in the footsteps of my father (who Produced the flagship news programme Today on Radio 4) and his father (who was the BBC's Chief Engineer and received an MBE for his work during the war).I progressed into production and, after volunteering to do a bunjee jump live on air from a crane over the Thames (my main concern being not to swear), I began… Show more After wangling a job moving furniture at what was then called London News Radio (sister station to the better known LBC), I briefly followed in the footsteps of my father (who Produced the flagship news programme Today on Radio 4) and his father (who was the BBC's Chief Engineer and received an MBE for his work during the war).I progressed into production and, after volunteering to do a bunjee jump live on air from a crane over the Thames (my main concern being not to swear), I began working as a reporter - recording audio and putting together packages for the station's fast-paced rolling news format.I went on to freelance at various BBC and independent local radio stations as well as working for the Euronews TV channel in Lyon, France.Aware that my career in journalism was certainly destined to make less of a splash than my father's and grandfather's and, after interviewing Gary Glitter, I realised it was time to move on. French Alps

For six winter seasons I managed to slot in working in the French alps as rep, guide, barman... with my career. I did my first season in the small village of Orcieres near the ski resort of Merlette in the southern French alps, working in a bar and learning to be rude in French.This left me with a love of mountain sports (skiing, mountain biking, hiking, climbing), France and French - which I now speak pretty well (although I still provide my French friends with plenty of laughs).
