There are times when the expectations of the engineer don't match actual field conditions and I have had to redesign several jobs onsite. I place tremendous emphasis on the need for a "SAFETY FIRST" mentality and therefore, place a great deal of importance on being aware of my surroundings, continuous checking for Foreign Voltage, Bleeding off induction and proper BONDING & GROUNDING methods as well as monitoring for poisonous & explosive gases when working underground. As a Service Technician my primary responsibility was to install new service or to repair/restore existing service to our customers. This position required excellent face to face customer service skills, particularly listening to and addressing a customers needs, questions, concerns, or complaints. As the first real person to appear at the customers home or business, I greatly enjoyed giving them what they needed or wanted which consisted of voice, internet, & tv service.

However, I should add for this, and the Service Tech title above, the installation of jacks, inside wiring, modems, NID's / ONI's (Network interface device / Outside network interface) a.k.a. the box on the exterior of a house which is the point of demarcation, placing or repairing aerial or buried service wire, terminate BSW / ASW @ terminal, provisioning for service at ONU's to program electronic cross connect, programming F1 to F2 @ DISC's or Light Speed terminal, placing channel units, placing copper cross connect jumpers @ XBOX or other terminals, testing quality of inside & outside wiring & cable pairs, repairing shorts, grounds, opens or crossed IW's / cable pr's, & communicating with inside support & central office personnel for further testing or changing of originating equipment, cable pairs, etc.

This was my first position with Bellsouth (AT&T) and although, an OPT usually works on a Lineman or Placers Truck, I was hired into the IFITL (Integrated fiber in the loop) Project and my duties consisted of placing the ONU's (Optical network units) which required reading very detailed blueprints, placing electronic components, splicing the copper and fiber optic cables, provisioning, & cutover.

Part time Sales Consultant for CarMax at the Town Center location in Kennesaw, Ga. I did this in the evening and on weekends while working full time at AT&T. I love selling cars, trucks, and vans for CarMax. It is truly a quality first company. You can be sure that whatever your price range may be, every vehicle has gone through a 125 point inspection and up to 12 hrs. of TLC just to make it to our retail lot. If it doesn't meet specific criteria, it goes to auction. Many of the used vehicles at other dealerships are the ones that CarMax refuses to sell. The "No Haggle Pricing Policy" is to the buyers benefit.

At Goodman Decorating I was involved with a vast array of projects which included residential, but primarily commercial & industrial painting, pressure washing & sandblasting ,as well as installing fabric wall panels for decorative & sound proofing / reducing properties. The fabric wall panels I'm referring to are not the dividing walls for office cubicles. At that time, Fast Track and Whisper Walls were two of the products most often used. It is a system of plastic tracking which was cut to size and fastened to the wall to resemble a picture frame. The framing is divided on the wall in various design patterns, limited only by your imagination. However, a picture frame is the simplest idea. The frames are then filled in with fiber glass or micor panels. Then, fabric of seemingly endless materials and patterns, is stretched over the panels and tucked into grooves that are part of the tracking design The panels were often times 9' - 10' floor to cieling. It was quite challenging and satisfying to say the least. This is a very basic and simplified description of what is required to complete a finished product. Some examples of places I have worked with Goodman are Atlanta Water Authority and many other jobs using industrial coatings for corrosion prevention / protection, to the painting or repainting of what seems like nearly every building in Atlanta: The World of Coke, Coke Headquarters, Georgia Pacific, Bellsouth (at&t), Westin Tower, Nations Bank, Fox Theater, Phips Plaza, The Omni, Ga. Dome, The Olympic Village, Kimberly Clark, The Marriott, Northside Hospital, UPS, The Margaret Mitchell House, The homes of Arthur Blank, Fran Tarkenton, & John Portman just to name a few.

This was the "Stratton Oakmont" headed by Jordan Belfort, "The Wolf of Wall Street". I walked into Stratton for an interview, the day after Thanksgiving in 1988. There was an ad in Newsday classified for stockbroker trainees wanting to make a lot of $$$$$. I was hired as a cold caller for a broker and I happily smiled and dialed from 8am until 9pm, generating highly qualified leads. I also learned to handle rejection quite well. And, I can tell you without a doubt that if you're not making enough money/sales, then you're not making enough cold calls. It simply must be done so, "PICK UP THE PHONE" !!! Jordan taught all of us his "Straight Line Sales Method" long before he wrote the book. Please, keep in mind that I left Stratton when I began to see clearly, something was ethically wrong.
