I was responsible for the surgical care of complex cleft and craniomaxillofacial patients. This specialisty focuses on advanced treatments for children born with facial deformity or deformity sustained through facial trauma. It involved reconstructive procedure to reshape the skull, facial bones, eyes, nose and jaws. The Hospital for Sick Children is a world leader in quality of care and research into child hood disease. During his time at The Hospital for Sick Children Dr Watts was awarded the Lindsay Thompson Research Scholarship for his work on sutural craniosynostosis. Children born with cleft lip require soft tissue reconstruction to help rebalance the lip shape and form, nasal shape and form along with hard and soft palate. Their ongoing care requires a multidisciplinary team with specialists from Plastic Surgery, Ear Nose and Throat surgery, nursing, speech therapy, dentists, periodontists, prosthodontists and orthodontists.Dr Watts continues this care with his work at Perth Children's Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdnery Hospital where is utilises the latest in three dimensional technology.
