The diagnosis is based on the detection of microRNA biomarkers in a small volume blood sample by molecular beacon capture probes appended by a high refrative index nanoparticle, which undergoes a conformational change in the presence of the biomarker, which in turn is detected by photonic bandgap sensing structures.My role in this project was the initial design and optimisation of the molecular beacons and further optimisation when implemented on the device chip, and acting as lead partner for the bio-assay development as a whole, covering those partners involved in the bioassay and microfluidics area development.
