Responsible for risk assessment and monitoring of entire corporate lending book. Aggregate investments of ~USD 200 mn across 15 transactions. Collections of ~USD 200 mn with 10 exits.

This NBFC was set up in 2017 with an equity base of USD 200 Mn. Jointly promoted by Lonestar Funds (US based PE fund) and Mr. Rajiv Rattan (ex Indiabulls cofounder). Joined here as part of the founding team for setting up wholesale structured credit business. Responsible for origination and underwriting.

Joined their Distress Assets business just when it was being set up and was part of the exciting journey which saw the distress business AUM grow from virtually zero to over USD 6 Bn. My stint there can broadly be divided into two phases:2010-2013Worked in the asset reconstruction (ARC) business. Key Responsibilities included: i) NPL buyouts from Banks (banking coverage, due diligence, pricing, documentation)ii) Resolution & Recovery of the acquired portfolio (enforcement, restructuring, settlement) 2013-2017Worked in their offshore fund - EISAF (currently into Fund II of USD 1.2 Bn). Key Responsibilities included:i) Investing (Origination, Credit underwriting, Structuring & Documentation)ii) Portfolio ManagementDeployed ~USD 300 mn across sectors like auto, cement, paper, industrials, hospitality etc. and achieved exits with a healthy IRR track record

Introduced me to the world of Distressed Debt. Was a start-up ARC at the time but had strong institutional sponsors (it was eventually acquired by Blackstone Group in 2017). I got an opportunity to work on all sides of the asset reconstruction business. I learnt my first lessons in valuing NPLs and resolution and recovery of these NPLs. Was also involved in equity raise exercises. While it was a great learning curve for me, we were not getting enough capital to grow and I also realised that a stand-alone ARC will always suffer from capital constraints.

Worked in their Pre engineered buildings division in Hyderabad and Kuwait. Reported to the COO; the role had elements of research and strategy. They hired MBAs from leading B - schools in India and the US and had a 3 year programme to groom them into leadership roles. Company was offered a Day Zero slot at IIMB owing to attractive compensation and international exposure. However, I soon realised that opportunity to learn and add value to the business were limited and hence, decided to leave within one year.
