In 2015, Omnia embarked on replacing its current ERP system with Microsoft AX. This afforded the BI team with the opportunity to completely revamp our department. We expanded considerably in preparation for this change, with myself becoming the team lead to coordinate this change. I am currently responsible for a team of roughly 14 members, consisting of data warehouse and front end developers as well as business analysts and consultants. My responsibilities include1. Re-architect of BI 2.0 at Omnia1.1 Sizing of the new BI servers.1.2 Collaborate on how to structure and implement BI 2.0.2. Create methodology and best practices.3. Presentation of new architecture.4. Lead various teams in establishing the new environment4.1 Convert current data warehouse environment from using automation tools to SSIS packages4.2 Convert Cognos reports to SSRS reports4.3 Convert certain Qlikview Apps to PowerBI reports5. Manage details of new BI projects5.1 Conduct daily stand up meetings with team for ongoing projects.5.2 Prioritized projects, and using Microsoft Visual Studio Team Services to break the project down in tasks and assign resources and manage the resources to deliver the project in scope and within time.5.3 Conduct code review of SSIS work done by developers, confirming that it is following best practices and guidelines set out by Omnia.5.4 Once code review has been passed, I or an Omnia data warehouse developer will deploy to production.5.5 Oversee internal testing and UAT testing of all front end reports.6. Interview possible new team members when needed.7. Train new team members and consultants as the team grows due to the increased demand for BI at Omnia.8. Assess and manage Day to Day support for ad hoc requirements for BI work, assigning it either to a resource or create a new project for it.9. Maintain and perform Disaster Recovery tests annually of entire BI environment.10. Plan and co-ordinate monthly Omnia PowerBI community.

With the successful implementation of the ERP system at Omnia, a formal Business Intelligence team was formed, consisting of myself and the team lead, which in later years increased to eight team members. My responsibilities included:1. Expand the Data Warehouse1.1 Find the correct data in ERP’s database.1.2 Extract, Transform and load the data into a star schema in the data warehouse to report off.1.3 Responsible for the successful completion of the nightly refresh of the warehouse.1.3.a Any failures in the ETL process will notify us and we would need to VPN into the server and fix the error, insuring that the data is up to date by business day the next morning.2. Maintain Cognos environment2.1 Add new data to Cognos Framework Manager from data warehouse.2.2 Create new Framework packages in Cognos Framework Manager based on business requirements.2.3 Create new Cognos reports in Cognos Report Builder based on business requirements.2.4 Schedule and maintain reports for email delivery each morning.3. Maintain Qlikview environment3.1 Convert existing Qlikview models to incorporate new ERP data or replace old ERP data with new ERP data.3.2 Create new Qlikview models based on business requirements.3.3 Maintain security to Qlikview models.3.4 Schedule Qlikview models to reload in Publisher and distribute4. Assist in implementing IBM Cognos TM1 as Omnia’s Group Financial Management Accounts4.1 Write the SQL code for the necessary data to be loaded into TM14.2 Responsible for the successful completion of the nightly schedule.4.3 Assist with Omnia’s yearly budget cycle done in TM1.5. Train new team members as our team grew due to the increased demand for BI at Omnia.6. Day to Day support for ad hoc requirements for data warehouse, Cognos or Qlikview7. After achieving my Business Systems Diploma I was employed as a full time employee at Omnia Group. My responsibilities included:1. Was part of the team that did the implementation of a new ERP system (QAD) at Omnia.1.1 Master data management:1.1.a Clean up of master data from the old system.1.1.b Removing duplicate product items and reconciling similar items1.1.c Renumbering items and collecting any necessary additional data needed1.1.d Loading of these items into the ERP system.1.2 Document management: 1.2.a Project leader responsible for all output documents from the ERP system i.e. Invoices, Purchase Orders, Delivery Notes etc.1.2.b Obtain the document specification from business and design and implement these documents.1.2.c Managing the consultant for the third party Document Management solution (Sybrin) in achieving our goals.1.2.d Migration of all documents off Sybrin into QADs Reporting Framework, too achieve a fully integrated ERP.2. Implementing a sustainable Business Intelligence solution to support the ERP system.2.1 Data Warehouse:2.1.a Responsible for maintaining the data warehouse.2.1.b Implementing new data requirements or changes to requirement through best ETL practices.2.1.c Create and maintain Cognos reports from business requirements.2.1.d Create and maintain Qlikview models from business requirements. 3. ERP Software Support3.1 Ongoing QAD support for users that have already gone live with the ERP system4. Document Management of the live ERP system 4.1 Maintaining the Document Management server in achieving 24 hours uptime.4.2 Stream lead with change management of documents and support if a document is incorrectly produced.4.3 Emailing out all invoices and statement produced daily to customers.5. IT Helpdesk Support5.1 With my previous three years of experience in the department and familiarity with employees, I am sometimes called upon to assist with technical queries.

For three years I worked from November to February as an IT Helpdesk Technician during my university holiday. This was my first corporate occupation, allowing me to experience firsthand what I was studying to a degree. I was mainly responsible for: • Assisting employees within the organization with any technical/software related computer queries they had.• Assisted on various projects, from achieving organizational wide email archiving to educating employees on various IT concepts.• Doing site visits throughout South Africa to assist with specific technical problems that could not be solved remotely.

Going to summer camp in America helped me gain a better understanding of international cultures and assisted me in gaining team building and leadership skills. During the summer camp I was a camp counselor and I was mainly responsible for:1. Responsible for thirteen 13 year old males for 2 months, living and looking after them for 24 hours, 7 days a week.2. Assisting Senior Camp Managers for a month during post season to clean up the camp and do general maintenance on camp buildings and grounds, in preparation for winter.
