Foss Maritime is a maritime transportation company based in Seattle, Washington. As a Senior Human Resource Business Partner at Foss Maritime Company, I lead the front line employee and labor relations across multiple states, supporting both union and non-union operations for 500 plus employees and seven different unions. I support our line managers with human resources, employee and labor relations, recruitment, and training in five different states. I've performed full-cycle recruitment for shoreside and marine positions conducting candidate screening and supporting hiring managers in the interview process. Additionally, I have conducted orientation and onboarding of new personnel to ensure they were set up for success. Many of the people I've hired remain with the company and have been promoted into positions of increased responsibility. Employee relations includes working with employees at all levels, addressing concerns and supporting managers with difficult and challenging issues that utilize my strong emotional intelligence. I have always felt comfortable interacting with people at all levels in our organization and have developed strong relations with many of the employees. I have provided support to our managers in contract interpretation and administration to ensure terms and conditions are followed properly. By fostering open and honest communication with our union leaders, I have maintained strong positive rapport. I've prepared and presented numerous training sessions, both online and in person on topics such as employee relations, performance management, and labor relations to our line managers that increased their skills and knowledge.

Human Resources Business Partner

Novi, Mi, Us

Lineage Logistics is a world leading in third party cold storage and logistics firm. I joined Lineage Logistics in 2008 providing Human Resources and Labor Relations at their first acquisition called Seafreeze in Seattle, WA. As the sole practitioner of HR and Labor Relations, I was responsible for all facets of human resources which included recruitment, employee relations, labor relations, leave management, worker’s compensation, and benefits management. As the firm grew in the Pacific Northwest, my scope of responsibility expanded to eventually include six locations, operating under four different company names, and in two different states. This included multiple labor agreements, employee policies and procedures, and different benefit plans. It called upon my strong ability to work laterally and multi-task. Working with many different managers, I adapted my style and approach to ensure I was provided the best support and assistance. Working with the Vice President of NW Operations we had considerable success in improving our relations with one of our unions. It was evident how quickly a new contract was negotiated and ratified compared to previous contract cycles. I developed strong relationships with many union leaders that remain to this day.

Additionally, I conducted some recruiting for some skilled labor positions. My final assignment was working as the sole HR practitioner at a cold storage distribution warehouse. This was full-cycle human resources with union and non-union employees. While there the business was sold to new owners. I remained working and collaborated closely with attorneys overseeing the human resources factors. This included meetings with the unions to ensure the existing labor agreements were carried intact. The new owners provided me with the opportunity to work for the company as a regular employee and joined early in 2009.
