  • American Councils For International Education
    Program Officer
American Councils For International Education Aug 2018 - Aug 2019
    Washington D.C. Metro Area
During my time as Arabic Flagship Program Officer at American Councils for International Education, I supported a network of federal funders, American Councils Flagship staff, overseas program faculty, university staff at seven domestic sites, and Flagship students both in the U.S. and abroad. I applied my firsthand knowledge of the program as a Capstone year alumnus in order to serve students and university staff in different capacities, including language assessment proctoring and program advising. I honed my event and travel coordination skills while planning and executing events for students, federal funders, and program directors and staff, always presenting a seamless and enjoyable experience, whether in the D.C. American Councils office or in the Arab American Language Institute in Morocco. I also applied a culturally competent and empathetic framework to my interactions with students, staff, faculty, and visiting Moroccan instructors. My success in this position underlay a transitional time for the program and supported the Arabic Flagship Program Manager, with whom I maintained a positive and productive relationship.
  • University Of Texas At Austin - Arabic Summer Institute
    Instructional Support
University Of Texas At Austin - Arabic Summer Institute Jun 2018 - Aug 2018
    Austin, Texas Area
As Instructional Support, I provided in-class teaching support to professor and teaching assistant of a first-year Arabic language course in an accelerated, intensive program. I took on grading responsibility in addition to holding weekly language partner sessions with each student, during which I prepared activities to activate the four skills of language: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
  • Refugee Services Of Texas
    Resettlement Intern
Refugee Services Of Texas Jan 2017 - Jun 2017
    Austin, Texas Area
As resettlement intern, I managed 15+ cases of refugee and SIV clients. Each case, whether a family or an individual, was assisted through the process of applying for legal documents and securing government benefits, including Medicaid. Families and individuals were also constantly checked on to ensure clarity and progress of personal goals, including job obtainment in a specific sector or completing the Texas driver's licensing test. Specific skills developed or refined in this position included management of personal and client schedules, accurate and timely case-noting, empathetic speech, effective communication through a translator, and group facilitation. In addition to case management, I also led RST's monthly Cultural Orientation, which is a mandatory event according to the national voluntary agencies. This group required simultaneous use of multiple translators and the ability to implement group work strategies in order to communicate a large amount of information in an interactive manner within a limited amount of time. Finally, I presented an organization-wide training, titled "Requesting RMA Transportation," which outlined the benefits of utilizing the newly-implemented Texas Refugee Medical Assistance program's free transportation for clients to and from medical appointments. Because of my work with specific clients who lived a great distance from the RST Austin office, I had the most experience with this new system, which had been implemented a week after I began my position. Requesting transportation so often for my clients allowed me to identify gaps in delivery service and work with staff at the United States Committee for Refugees and Immigrants, which manages Texas RMA, to fill them.
  • Arabic Flagship Program - Ut Austin

Arabic Flagship Program - Ut Austin Sep 2015 - Jun 2017

As Events Coordinator Intern, I assisted the Program Officer and Outreach Coordinator in arranging and presenting cultural events on the UT Austin campus. Depending on the type of event, this assistance included: communication with event speakers, creation of event materials, and/or working with event participants and determining the event schedule. Past events I have coordinated include the Moroccan Mosaic Conference, which featured keynote speakers from Washington, D.C. and Austin, TX, as well as faculty and student presenters - all of whom gave lectures about a different aspect of Moroccan culture and study abroad in Morocco. Other events include the Arabic Choir (2015, 2016), and the annual Arabic Talent Show (2016).Beginning September 2016, I also handled the Alumni Connect program, which aimed to give current students a look at the wide varieties of employment opportunities available to them after graduation. I contacted alumni of the Arabic Flagship Program and hosted them at one-time seminars, which took place throughout the fall and spring semesters.
