Since adopting 3 more children, I split my time between roles as a mom of six and my career as a writer and speaker. With a wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and compassion inspired by hands-on experience, I help other parents maneuver through the pitfalls involved in the adoption and the healing of traumatized children and advocate for children of abuse and addiction. I also teach adult victims of childhood trauma how to move out of the victim mentality into a life of freedom, victory and abundance.I understand that substance abuse, alcohol abuse, and mental, physical, and sexual abuse are all part of an interrelated war with countless casualties. This war leaves a catastrophic trail of widows, orphans, and wounded souls in its path. Sometimes the devastation for the victims manifests in obvious, gaping wounds that have to be addressed immediately. Unfortunately, much of the trauma simmers unseen beneath the surface. when, unexpectedly, the devastation appears out of nowhere months or even decades later.With my book, "Echoes of Silence ~ Letters to a Drug Addicted Mother from the Woman Who Took Her Place" as my platform, I am dedicated to helping end the war and helping heal those who have fallen prey to its terrors, especially our children.As a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), I fought for the rights of foster children until entering the foster care system myself as an adoptive mother. I share my experiences through my blog, www.gwenmiller.co, as well as speaking with passion and purpose to social service organizations, parent groups, mental health organizations, addiction support groups (Families Anonymous, AlAnon, and more), and pre- and post-adoptive parents.
