About George Iskander

My name is George Iskander, and I'm a PhD student at UChicago. I graduated with distinction from Yale in 2020 with a B.S. in Mathematics & Physics. I have done research in AMO, quantum networking, and particle physics. My primary interest lies along the precision frontier, and I am interested in atomic clock detection of dark matter at the moment!

    Yale University Aug 2019 - May 2020
    New Haven, Ct, Us
With the support of the Yale STARS II Fellowship, I am working with Prof. Oliver K. Baker at Yale to study entanglement entropy thermalization in charged-current neutrino-nucleus scattering.
  • Slac National Accelerator Laboratory
    Sr-Eip Research Assistant
Slac National Accelerator Laboratory May 2019 - Aug 2019
    Menlo Park, California, Us
  • Yale University
    Undergraduate Research Assistant
    Yale University Oct 2018 - May 2019
    New Haven, Ct, Us
With the support of the Yale STARS II Fellowship, I worked with Prof. Navon to develop a laser monitoring network and dashboard using the Raspberry Pi platform.
  • Caltech
    Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow
    Caltech Jun 2018 - Aug 2018
    Pasadena, Ca, Us
The INQNET project, in collaboration with AT&T and Fermilab, is working on building and testing a quantum teleportation setup to demonstrate possible avenues for repeaters in quantum teleportation. We employ superconducting nanowire single photon detectors to achieve low dark counts and high efficiency. My work at Caltech focused on implementing a feedback loop for an electro-optic modulator in our setup as well as characterizing and building the rest of the equipment and setup.
  • Yale University
    Undergraduate Research Assistant
    Yale University Jan 2018 - May 2018
    New Haven, Ct, Us
Conducted research in Yale physics department for credit with Prof. Navon and Dr. Franklin Vivanco to explore applications of machine learning to improve early cooling stages of a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). I worked alongside Shivam Sarodia, another undergraduate. Together, we built upon new research recently published in Nature demonstrating applicability of machine learning to BEC experiments. We programmed in Python using Anaconda libraries to interface with and control experimental setup in order to run machine learning scripts. We demonstrated modest decrease in temperature, about 3 to 5%, and documented procedures for future lab group members. At the end of the semester, I wrote a research paper and presented our research to fellow undergraduate research assistants.
  • Yale University
    Grader
    Yale University Sep 2017 - May 2018
    New Haven, Ct, Us
As a grader for the math dept.'s linear algebra class, I graded weekly assigned linear algebra problem sets, uploaded grades, provided professors with detailed feedback and suggestions on homework assignments, and highlighted particularly difficult problems.
  • Yale University
    Summer Undergraduate Research Assistant
    Yale University Jun 2017 - Aug 2017
    New Haven, Ct, Us
At the Yale University K-Lab, I worked with Professor Nir Navon and Dr. Sid Cahn on developing an ultracold, ultra high vacuum apparatus for use on Bose Einstein Condensate and degenerate Fermi gas experiments. In the lab, my work included 3D modeling of the apparatus, assembling acousto-optic modulator circuit drivers, helping to assemble the vacuum setup, documenting procedure and development, creating Python scripts to monitor and report on vacuum pumps, and electronic equipment setup. This research was supported by the Yale College First-Year Summer Research Fellowship.
  • Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (Pppl)
    Undergraduate Research Assistant
Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (Pppl) Jul 2016 - Aug 2016
    Princeton, New Jersey, Us
At Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, my work included fixing bugs on an online tokamak simulator, integrating website codebases, and developing an educational outreach site aimed at the general public.
  • Wespotlight.Com
    Intern
    Wespotlight.Com Jul 2015 - Sep 2015
    New York, New York, Us
My responsibilities included developing, modifying, and deploying client websites using HTML5, CSS3, PHP, and Wordpress.
