Gwyn and Marie understood the risks of the project and laid out a plan that allowed us to enlist the initial, albeit skeptical, support of stakeholders, understand the limitations of the current name with patient clients (whose negative reactions, we were surprised to discover, went beyond the word "AIDS"), and, with the data gathered, convince stakeholders that a name change was not only a good idea, but also urgently necessary. They also worked closely with us to generate potential new names, eventually narrowing the list to two. The final two were tested with stakeholders, clients, and the general public. Because of this, we were confident the name we eventually settled on, Allies for Health & Wellbeing, was a name that worked well for all of our audiences. The project was completed on time at a relatively low cost, and what we learned through the research was invaluable.
