Implanted the first Jarvik AVAD in Texas in 1987 in Lubbock, Texas, as well as several other “firsts” for west Texas. In 1998 became a Charter Member of The International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiovascular Surgery. In 2002 earned an MBA from Texas A&M University and elected to Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. In 2007 became the 5th surgeon in the USA to perform Robotically-Assisted Transmyocardial Laser Revascularization (TMR or TMLR) of the heart. In 2014 named a Distinguished Alumnus of The College of Science of Texas A&M University. In 2014 named CMO of SonarMed, which developed the Airwave monitoring system, which provides real-time, continuous endotracheal tube monitoring for neonates to adults noninvasively.
