Dr. H Thomas Karnes is Emeritus Professor of Pharmaceutics, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia. He holds degrees in Analytical Chemistry, Clinical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Karnes joined the faculty at VCU in 1984 and has worked in analytical research since that time. Dr. Karnes directs a graduate research group whose interests include regulatory biorelevant drug release and the use of luminescence, chromatography, mass spectroscopy, immunoreactors and microfluidics for drug analysis. He directs a GLP compliant Quantitative Mass Spectrometry facility at VCU which provides method development and other analytical services to the pharmaceutical sciences community. He has served on a variety of expert panels in the area of bioanalytical methods validation and control. He is Past Chair of the Analysis and Pharmaceutical Quality section (APQ) of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) and is a former member of the United States Pharmacopeia, Committee of Experts. He has served as a consultant with several pharmaceutical companies and government agencies. Dr. Karnes has published more than 142 research papers. He is Editor for the Journal of Chromatography B. He has served on nearly every major committee in the APQ section, is an AAPS Fellow and a recipient of the AAPS-APQ Research Achievement, and Distinguished Service Awards.
