Journalism and Social MediaFormerly a newspaper reporter and copy editor for papers such as the Janesville (WI) Gazette and San Francisco Examiner, my journalism experience largely focused on technology and business. When the Web went mainstream in the mid-'90s, I edited for the now-defunct Online Access magazine, the first newsstand publication about the Internet in the United States. At CIO magazine, I helped launch WebBusiness magazine. And at Fast Company, I helped launch the magazine's Web site; founded the Company of Friends, the magazine's readers' network (one of the first mainstream social media projects); contributed to the magazine; and edited the Web site.Between August 2005 and September 2006, I worked on the Web startup Squidoo with entrepreneur Seth Godin. I designed and managed Squidoo's learning community.Marketing Research and Research OperationsIn August 2006, I joined DoubleClick as a research manager. There, I studied the impact of new technology on advertising -- and vice versa. When Google bought DoubleClick, I turned my attention to industry intelligence, competitive intelligence, training, and public speaking -- as well as the administration of the research team.Following the merger, I worked on primary research projects (designing, fielding, and interpreting consumer surveys), managed a multi-million-dollar budget, managed many of our partnerships, and became the resident expert on third-party audience measurement and date providers. I also managed the teams knowledge management framework to help syndicate the research that we do -- internally and externally. For a time, I managed extremely large data sets used by statisticians to research how people use media across multiple screens. And today, I focus on social media and key opinion formers, knowledge management, and learning and development.Specialties: Writing, editing, copy editing, proofreading, media research, marketing research, industry intelligence, competitive intelligence, public speaking, training, social media, research operations.
