I have been working with the Sammamish Independent, a local startup, online only newspaper for the Sammamish community for the past 3+ years. My focus, as the sports and rec editor, has been to help train and develop writing skills for future journalists as well as students trying to find their passion in life or just improve their written communication skills. It has been a gratifying challenge to find and cover new, local stories, assign and organize reporters and deadlines, give consistent feedback while putting out regular content for all of Sammamish. I have loved watching young students turn into skilled journalists from their first publication to their graduation, presenting their earned scholarship for all their hard work. That moment of pride and accomplishment makes all the effort worthwhile. Before working for the Sammamish Independent, I earned my black belt in tae kwon do and arnis. I was promoted as instructor and then senior instructor, teaching not only tae kwon do and arnis but kickboxing, for several years. As an instructor, I have developed many skills that allow me to communicate a lesson with organization, efficiency and clarity. I am patient, looking for the right teaching method for each individual.
